If you have substantial experience in building, construction supervision, project delivery or construction management, your existing skills can be relevant to a Diploma of Building and Construction qualification pathway through Recognition of Prior Learning.
BCQ helps experienced candidates understand the pathway, prepare their evidence and navigate the process with All Trades and Compliance (RTO 32398).
The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is for building professionals who manage construction projects. It covers structural principles, risk and financial management, estimating, preparing and administering contracts, selecting and managing contractors, quality oversight and managing construction work. It applies to residential Class 1 and 10 buildings up to three storeys and commercial Class 2–9 buildings of Type C and B construction. Through Recognition of Prior Learning, your existing skills, knowledge and experience are assessed against the qualification requirements. Further evidence, assessment or training may be required where gaps are identified.
RPL can consider relevant skills and knowledge gained through work, previous formal training and other experience. Evidence can include project documentation, plans, contracts, workplace records, photographs, previous qualifications or Statements of Attainment, third-party reports and competency conversations.
Not every candidate needs every type of evidence listed above.
Candidates must have access to a live building and construction workplace to satisfy specific assessment requirements for this qualification. BCQ and the RTO will explain the evidence and assessment arrangements that apply.
BCQ learns about your experience, current role, previous qualifications and objective.
BCQ helps you identify and organise evidence that can be relevant to the qualification requirements.
All Trades and Compliance (RTO 32398) assesses the evidence and determines whether competency requirements are met.
If further evidence, assessment or learning is required, this will be identified through the RTO assessment process.
Where all requirements are satisfied, the RTO issues the nationally recognised qualification.
A Diploma of Building and Construction can form part of some licensing pathways, but requirements vary by jurisdiction and licence class. Holding the Diploma does not automatically result in a builders licence. The relevant licensing authority determines eligibility and issues the licence.
This qualification may support builder licensing pathways, including the Builder, medium rise licence in Queensland. Licensing eligibility is determined separately by the relevant authority and depends on meeting its qualification, experience and other requirements.
BCQ provides qualification pathway guidance and RPL evidence preparation as a third-party provider for Master Mechanics Training Pty Ltd, trading as All Trades and Compliance (RTO 32398). Formal assessment and certification are the responsibility of the RTO. A qualification is not a licence: builders licences are issued by the licensing authority in each state and territory, including QBCC in Queensland, against their own experience and financial requirements. BCQ does not operate in South Australia. ABN 50 621 900 543.
